'Travel Website with a difference'
A locally based website is making a huge impact in the world of travel – and it’s all thanks to a cartoon character called Bob Buttercup! Bob is the ‘host’ of www.buttercupholidays.co.uk. As official travel consultant, he guides visitors around the website, especially to the holiday offers area.
The site is owned and run from the small village of Cropton, near Pickering. “There are a lot of holiday websites on the internet and it’s difficult to be different so the idea was to create an ‘online travel consultant’ able to interact with visitors,” says Rob, who runs the site. And so Bob was created. He was drawn by a local Cropton village artist, Richard Peacock. “We’ve noticed visitors have increased rapidly since his inclusion on the site,” says Rob.
The Buttercup Holidays website has a fantastic worldwide flight search facility and a car hire comparison search box that searches over 50 different car hire providers for the best available price.
The site has received great support from major holiday companies, including Disneyland Resort Paris, lastminute.com and DFDS Seaways. They’ve given Buttercup Holidays great co-operation and send their latest offers and deals for inclusion on the site. There are plans to include audio podcasts of special deals from holiday companies and possibly make Bob into an animated talking character.
“At Buttercup Holidays I make a small commission on each holiday sold so Bob needs to sell holidays to expand the site,” says Rob. “The more visitors I get to the site, the more help I receive from the Travel companies.”
